When a high-stakes bet results in bloodshed, a woman flees into the wilderness with her wanted lover, wagering her life on a fate no man can dictate. 

At the turn of the 20th century, Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show rolls into Italy to face the butteri: elite horsemen from Lazio and Tuscany with a storied connection to the legends of the American frontier. After a prideful Rupè loses his bet in a high-stakes rodeo between American cowboys and his buttero Santino, his wife Rosa, kills her abusive husband. Fleeing into the wilderness with Santino, the pair falls in love, but their dream of freedom quickly collapses into a brutal manhunt when a bounty is placed on Santino’s head. As her fate hangs in the balance, Rosa must outwit the men who have held her captive to reclaim her own narrative. 

Inspired by a true event from Buffalo Bill’s tour of Italy, Heads or Tails? is a surreal Western starring John C. Reilly that premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the 78th Cannes Film Festival.
