New this year, Playground is our first programme made for younger audiences. These films see the world through a child's eyes with curiosity, wonder and a sense of being different. A curious child gathers experiences, a deaf child imagines the sound of a concert, and a girl sees snow differently from everyone in her art class. Made by first-time directors and student collectives, they trust young viewers to feel and wonder at once.

Our two evening programmes pair films from around the world with works by emerging Singapore student filmmakers. Expect stop-motion, hand-drawn 2D and experimental work. Many films explore life inside our own heads: a people-pleaser faces a dark being, and a mouse dreads going outside. Others bear witness to an unstable world, including an animated diary kept through years of war. Memory, loss and mortality run through strange, tender stories like a shop owner facing his end with the help of a moth. From Singapore, young filmmakers take on the guilt of sending a dog away and a wooden doll trapped in a loop of time. They hold their own beside the international selection.
